Make your own Christmas piece

Make your own Christmas piece. There’s nothing as nice as a bit of December atmosphere at home! With the holidays approaching, it’s time to think about the nicest decorations. In addition to a beautiful tree, wreath or lighting, a festive Christmas arrangement should not be missing. The best thing about a Christmas piece? You can easily make it yourself. Beautiful for your own living room, but also great to give as a gift! In this blog you will find out how to make a Christmas piece step by step.

What do you need to make your own Christmas piece?

To get started, you need a good base with which to make your Christmas piece. Buy green oasis (this is a kind of foam) or clay for this. It is also useful to have iron wire, a knife and a pair of cord scissors ready. And for the Christmas piece itself? You can use anything for that. Choose some beautiful branches from your garden or go looking in the forest. Use Christmas baubles, pine cones, garlands or other Christmas decorations. Also consider including a candle in your Christmas decoration. Of course you can also go to the garden center for the most beautiful materials.

Ideas for your Christmas piece

What your Christmas piece will look like is entirely up to you. Let your creativity run wild! Are you looking for some inspiration? Then think about the shape of your Christmas piece. For example, make a Christmas arrangement on a platter, fill a wicker basket with your most beautiful Christmas material, or use a vase as a base for your Christmas arrangement. Or go for terracotta pots or a Christmas garland. And how about a Christmas piece in the shape of a wreath?

Step by step how to make your own Christmas piece

Your materials are ready and you are bursting with ideas. Time to get started! How do you make your own Christmas piece?

Soak the oasis in water for at least an hour. When the green foam is thoroughly wet, you can start. Of course it is also possible to make your Christmas piece with clay.
Cut the foam or clay to the correct size for the shape you have chosen. This base should extend one or two centimeters above your shape.
Do you opt for a low piece? Then start with the sides. For a high piece, start with the back.

Cut the branches diagonally so that you can easily insert them into the foam or clay. Another advantage is that the branches absorb water better, so your Christmas arrangement stays beautiful for longer.
If you also use a candle in your piece, insert it after the first branches. Keep it safe and make sure the lit candle doesn’t come into contact with the rest of your Christmas arrangement.
Now let’s get started with the rest of the Christmas piece. Continue working from the outside in for a low piece, or from back to front for a high piece.

Make sure that all your material is clearly visible.
Done with the branches? Then it’s time for the decorations. Choose a nice spot for your Christmas baubles, pine cones or other extras. Would you prefer a quieter Christmas piece? Then leave out the extra decoration.
Now just the finishing touches. Fill every spot that is still empty with, for example, a little moss or a few beautiful berries. This is how you complete your unique Christmas piece!
