Flowers of the season – Spring: What’s blooming beautifully now?

Spring is in full swing and that means an explosion of color and scent in the flower world! At deBloemist.nl we are always excited about the change of seasons because each period brings its own special flowers. In this blog we will take you along the most beautiful seasonal flowers that are currently widely available and should not be missing in a spring bouquet.

Tulips in abundance

Spring in the Netherlands is of course synonymous with tulips! These iconic flowers come in countless colors and varieties. From classic red to soft pink, deep purple and even green – there is something for everyone. Did you know that there are more than 3,000 registered tulip varieties? Our current favorite is the ‘Flaming Columbus’, a pink tulip with a beautiful double flowered inflorescence that reminds us of another seasonal flower, the peony.

Tulips will last for about 6-7 days in a vase, but you can extend their life by changing the water regularly and cutting the stems every two days.

Fragrant daffodils

With their radiant yellow color, daffodils bring instant cheerfulness into the home. The scent of daffodils is unmistakably spring! They symbolize rebirth and new beginnings, perfectly suited to this season. Combine different varieties, such as the classic yellow trumpet daffodil with the elegant white daffodil ‘Thalia’ for a refined bouquet. Did you know that double bunch daffodils often give off the most scent, such as the Bridal Crown?

Tip: Do not put daffodils together with other flowers in a vase without first putting them in water separately for 24 hours. They secrete a slimy sap that can damage other flowers. Daffodils look great in a bouquet with spring blossoms. Try putting them in a vase with cherry blossoms or prunus.

Elegant ranunculus

Ranunculus have become extremely popular in recent years, and rightly so! With their lush, papery petals in pastel shades to bright colors, they are a feast for the eyes. They resemble small peonies but bloom earlier in the season. A vase full of ranunculus in different colors is a real eye-catcher in your interior.

Ranunculus likes cool water and a cool spot in the house, out of direct sunlight. Ranunculus has a sensitive stem, clean water is extra important. With the right care they can stay beautiful for 10 days!

Scented hyacinths

The intoxicating scent of hyacinths fills your entire home with the promise of spring. This strong scent comes from the dense clusters of small flowers on a sturdy stem. They come in white, pink, blue, purple and even soft yellow. Hyacinths are also perfect for in pots on your terrace or balcony. If you love Hyacinths, then the bulb fields are highly recommended, usually the fields are at their most beautiful at the end of March – beginning of April.

Delicate anemones

With their velvety petals and contrasting dark hearts, anemones are subtle beauties. They come in beautiful colors such as deep blue, fiery red and pure white. Anemones like to move with the sun, so you will notice that the flowers open and close during the day. This gives your bouquet a lively character! This is one of the reasons why Anemones do very well in a Picking bouquet.

Care tips for your spring flowers

• Give them clean, cold water
• Cut the stems diagonally before placing them in the vase
• Remove leaves that are under water
• Do not place the vase in direct sunlight or near a heat source
• Change the water every two days
